What do the numbers of a scope represent?
Scopes come in many different sizes. When looking at a rifle scope, you will see numbers like 5-25x50 or 2.5x20. The first set of numbers represent the power and zoom of the scope. In the example, the powers are 5-25 and 2.5 respectively. Where the 50 and the 20 are the size of the objective end in millimeters.
How much does a scope cost?
The basic rule of thumb is that you should spend as much as you can afford under the circumstances. You would not buy a $1000 scope to put on a $200 rifle and vice versa, you should not spend $200 on a scope to put on a $1000 rifle. We always like to recommend spending as much for your optics as you do on your rifle. The higher the price, the higher the quality.
Should I buy a first focal plane or second focal plane reticle?
For hunting situations, a second focal plane scope is going to be your best option, whereas a first focal plane scope is great for target and tactical style shooting.
